The AI processes it

Incarn sends your photo to our AI engine (Seedance 2.0), which analyzes the face, understands its unique structure, and synthesizes natural motion tailored to that specific person. This takes about 30–60 seconds.

Your animated video is ready to view and download as an MP4. Share it with family, add it to a presentation, or keep it as a personal memento.

The AI technology

Incarn is powered by Seedance 2.0, a state-of-the-art AI video generation model. It represents a significant leap forward compared to older photo animation tools.

Earlier tools like Deep Nostalgia (MyHeritage) worked by overlaying a pre-recorded motion loop onto your photo -essentially the same head movement applied to every face. The result felt repetitive and mechanical.

Seedance 2.0 is fundamentally different. It generates entirely original motion for each photo. The AI doesn't apply a template -it synthesizes new movement by understanding the specific facial geometry of the person in the image. The result is smoother, more natural, and uniquely tailored to your photo.

What makes a good photo

The AI works best with certain types of photos. Here's what to look for:

  • Clear face -the face should be clearly visible and not obscured by hair, hats, or shadows.
  • Front-facing or slight angle -portraits work best. Extreme side profiles are harder for the AI to work with.
  • Minimum resolution -at least 512×512 pixels is recommended. Higher resolution produces better results. Modern scans of old photos work excellently.
  • Single subject -while group photos can work, results are best when there's one primary face to animate.
  • Good contrast -the face should be distinguishable from the background. Very dark or very washed-out photos may produce less accurate results.

Old black-and-white and sepia photos tend to produce particularly striking results -the contrast between the stillness of an antique photograph and the natural motion of the animation is powerful.

What the AI actually does

When you upload a photo, here's what happens under the hood:

  1. Face detection -the AI locates the face in the image and identifies key facial landmarks (eyes, nose, mouth, jaw, etc.).
  2. Structural analysis -it builds a model of the unique facial geometry: the spacing between features, the shape of the face, skin tone and texture.
  3. Motion synthesis -using this model, it generates a sequence of natural movements. These include head rotation, blinking, and subtle facial expressions -the kinds of micro-movements that make a person look alive.
  4. Video rendering -the motion sequence is composited onto the original image to produce a smooth MP4 video, typically 3–6 seconds long.

The process happens entirely on our servers -you don't need any software or computing power on your end.

Quality and watermarks

Free animations (generated with your 1 guest credit) include a subtle Incarn watermark in the corner of the video.

Animations generated with purchased credits are watermark-free and produced at full quality. The underlying AI model is identical -only the watermark differs.

Common questions

Can the AI animate very old or damaged photos?

Often yes. The AI handles old, faded, or slightly damaged photos surprisingly well. Very severe damage (large tears, missing portions of the face) may reduce quality.

Will the person look exactly like the photo?

The animation preserves the likeness of the person. The AI adds motion but doesn't alter the face itself. The result looks like the person in the photo, now moving.

Can I use the video commercially?

How long is the generated video?

Animations are typically 3–6 seconds long -long enough to feel lifelike, short enough to load and share quickly.
